I haven’t disclosed this tidbit of information about myself yet, but I absolutely love wolves! And my traveling companion at the time absolutely loved bears, so when we caught wind of a wolf and bear tracker that lived up in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, we obviously had to contact him. We were in Vienna, Austria at the time and I ended up purchasing a ridiculous wolf t-shirt at the Naschmarkt just for this specific adventure. It’s what initially brought me to the region of Translyvania – the land of Dracula.
Packing a whole philosophy into one small phrase is nearly impossible, yet we tend to try and do it anyway. Travel quotes are no different. Who among us hasn’t heard JRR Tolkien’s phrase, “Not all those who wander are lost” taken from his poem written back in 1954? Or perhaps the coined phrase, “Traveling is the only thing you can buy that will make you richer?”
I think we can agree these quotes are timeless, but also a bit dusty. Although some travel quotes are definitely more worn than others, there are still several floating around that are both quirky and perhaps a bit more unconventional. Here to offer a fresh vantage point is my own small collection of 20 not-so-well-known inspirational travel quotes for your reading leisure!
Budapest – actually pronounced Budapesht – is not only the culturally rich capital of Hungary, but also a well known party city among travelers. With so many sights to see during the day, coupled with fantastic dining and lively nightlife – you can easily spend three or four days here without getting bored!
Have you ever asked yourself, “What exactly is in Omaha, Nebraska?”
Yeah, me neither. That is, until a few weeks ago.
I ended up taking our 8 year old niece, Mallory, out to Omaha, Nebraska for a week. Hillary’s company had assigned her to the Cornhusker state for the month of July, and we decided to roadtrip it out there to visit her.
Little Mallory and I made it a quest to find an answer to this question, and thus begins our Omaha Adventure!
I was 27 years old when I finally watched The Sound Of Music for the very first time. And it wasn’t because I hopped online to order it, or happened across it on TV. It actually wasn’t a decision I had made at all, it was as if the universe had decided it was time. The movie, as you may already know was filmed in Salzburg, Austria. And that just so happened to be where I found myself at 27 – in Salzburg, in a hostel that had a showing of The Sound Of Music. Every. Single. Night.
Bandaranaike International Airport. Arrival time 3am.
We hit the restroom, purchase our visas, make our way through customs and grab my pack at the baggage claim. We activate the Dialog SIM card we were given upon arrival and reach out to our CouchSurfing host, only to find out he is far less accommodating than we expected. So we are left to fend for ourselves, with no easy way of figuring out transportation into the city or a place to stay for the night. We’re jetlagged, disoriented, and alone. We need a plan.
